Explain a bill/statement like I’m not a lawyer
Bills and statements love to talk like lawyers. I don’t. So I stopped pretending I could decode them alone.
Screenshot or paste the confusing parts of a bill into ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, or Grok and ask for a regular-person translation. (Black out account numbers / full address first — privacy first, always.)
Try this prompt:
“Explain this bill/statement like I’m not a lawyer. In plain English tell me: (1) what I’m being charged for, (2) what changed vs a normal month if it looks weird, (3) what I actually owe and by when, (4) anything I should double-check or dispute. Here’s the text/photo description: [paste]”
I use this for medical EOBs, phone bills with mystery fees, credit card statements… anything that used to make me shrug and pay. Understanding it first feels a lot better than guessing.
You’re still the one who decides what to do. AI just speaks human.
