Get a confusing letter in plain English
Insurance letters, medical bills, school forms, the fine print on a lease. AI can turn it into words that make sense.
Step by step
- Cover the private stuff first. Put your thumb or a sticky note over account numbers, your Social Security number, and passwords before you take the photo.
- Take a clear photo of the page in good light.
- Open ChatGPT, Grok, or Gemini, tap the + or camera / photo button, and pick the photo.
- Ask:
Explain this simply, like I'm 10. Do I need to do anything, and by when?
- Ask follow-ups if anything's still fuzzy: "What does 'deductible' mean?" or "Who should I call about this?"
Monster safety tips
- Never share full account numbers, your Social Security number, or passwords with any AI.
- For money, legal or medical decisions, use the AI to understand the letter, then double-check with the company, your doctor, or someone you trust.
- If a letter asks you to pay right away with gift cards or a wire transfer, it's probably a scam. Ask the AI, "Does this look like a scam?" and check with someone you trust.
